Yikes.

Last post in APRIL?! What a slacker, I am. I usually have time at night to browse the inter webs and therefore I have no excuse as to why I have not posted. Sheer laziness. Moving on...
...I have been quite busy! Kanoa and I picked up another weekly gig Tuesday nights at the Hard Rock Cafe (yay!) and I love playing there. I love Kihei, but it's nice to get out of town and meet new people. I'm looking into doing a couple happy hours shows with my friend Chad, too.
I am excitedly planning the final details for my birthday bash on June 24th. Rabbitt & The Propers will be performing at Stella Blues in Kihei! I'm super excited! The theme: think Boogie Nights. Oh yeah. I'm obsessed with the 60's/70's. I sure hope you can make it!

Well, I will definitely make an effort to post more often....Ciao!

Busy as a bee!

I've totally been slacking on my blog! Yikes!
The Jam for Japan benefit was beyond what I could've asked for. We are still collecting money from a few silent auction items, but we've raised about $3500! This all is going to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts in Japan! It was such an amazing night and I have a few people I'd like to thank:
*Scott Johnson at Dogtowne Design for really helping me make this a special night and for always making   groovy flyers!
*Marla Johnson for working the silent auction tables
*Trish da Dish from The Weekly Dish on KAOI FM for her help with advertising
*Jen Russo from the Maui Time for beautiful colored ads
*Stephanie Rummans for working the door
and  Three's Bar & Grill for providing us with a beautiful venue for live music and good times

Rabbitt and The Propers had a such a good time! And we have lots to look forward to in the coming months. We'll be performing at Record Store Day at Requests on April 16th (time TBA) and I have a lil' something something in the mix for my birthday in June.  ; ) I am also now playing at Hard Rock Cafe in Lahaina on Tuesday nights with Kanoa from 7:30 - 10:00pm. Come down and see us!
It looks like I'm well on my way to being a full-time singer. It's all I've ever wanted.   :)

In closing, I'll leave you with some pictures from Jam for Japan, the flyer for Record Store Day and the new ad picture for Tuesday nights at Hard Rock!

Have a great day!

Jam For Japan

So, if you don't know already, Rabbitt and The Propers have turned our gig at Three's today (March 25th) into a benefit for Japan. We have such a great lineup and I am so excited! There have been so many amazing people involved in this and I just can't thank them all enough...but I'm gonna try.
Firstly, Scott Johnson has been such an incredible part of this. He has been so generous to share his connections and his time and talent to really get this up and going. He is responsible for the wonderful posters, ads and mentions in Maui TimeSouth Maui Weekly and Scene in the Maui News. Also, his amazing wife, Marla has volunteered her time to work the silent auction tables.
Trish da Dish has been awesome and had me on her radio show bright and early thing morning.  : )
Ellen Peterson and the Kit Kat Club will be opening with some sensuous burlesque and Chino LaForge will be bringing on the comedic relief.
Jaron, from Three's Bar and Grill, has been incredibly generous with time, space and donations as well.
We have received some amazing donations for our silent auction - you can't miss out on this- to mention a few:
  4 Piiholo Zipline passes
  Private Charter from Redline Charters

  Four tickets to Cirque Polynesia
Original Prints from Sean Michael Hower, Jessica Pearl and Jena Fuentes
  Soap Baskets from Yummy Soaps
Autographed skate deck from 808 All Day
  Tickets for two to Ulalena
   Betsey Johnson Swag
   Stella Blues
An 8hr Harley Rental from Eagle Rider

   AND MUCH MORE!!!

I hope to see you all there tonight! Bring your friends! Show and silent auction starts at 9pm! ALL PROCEEDS RAISED will be going to the Red Cross for relief efforts in Japan.

 See ya there, kids!

Tsunami 2011

What craziness has ensued over the previous 24 hours. Earthquake, tsumani, absolute devastation. I know everyone is praying for Japan. We were lucky here in Hawaii that the tsunami damage was minimal. General consensus was that Maui was hit the hardest, although, there were TWO HOMES on the Big Island that were swept away into the ocean! There was some severe flooding on Maui and some damage to homes, but no floating houses.
Rabbitt and The Propers will be performing at Three's on Friday, March 25th and, while we will not be charging a cover, we will have a donation box at the front door and on stage. All donations will go to the Red Cross as a donation to help families in Japan. Please come and show your support!
On a brighter note, mark your calendars. June 24th. Something big is happening.  ; )

Appréciez Votre Vie

So, I just realized that I am getting old....er. Whatever. It's my Friday, with a three day weekend in the lineup and I was watching Gomega play at Diamonds Ice Bar and voila! I realized that I'm sleepy and I want to go home. The old me would have manned-up and had a shot of something and partied the night away. Not me now. I know that there will be another party; probably tomorrow night. So, I'm not missing much. So, honey I am home.
Anywho. I went to Tiki Lounge last night to listen to Kanoa and Ryan play some melodies and had some delightful company. First, Miss Trish Da Dish stopped in for a hot minute to shoot the shit with me. We chatted about some upcoming projects with Rabbitt and The Propers. Excited!
Then, my old roommate (Brandy) and upstairs neighbor (Adam) stopped in. They were both in an extremely serious car accident last month and are still bandaged and healing. I send them lots of good juju.
Then, some older guy sat at the table next to me. Reeking of Jack Nicholson familiarity, he told me I looked like Mariah Carey. I was instantly offended because I assumed he meant the pregnant Mariah. Which reminds me - I need to go to the gym. Now, I've encountered many a drunk man - especially in the Triangle, and I have always passed judgement. You do it too, I'm sure. The kinda-drunk older guy by himself. Probably a perv. Keeps on talking and laughing. Creeper. Well, last night changed my mind.
Kanoa and Ryan took a break and we all headed out to smoke. Well, they smoked, I just watched. And "Jack" came out too (his real name is Louie, but I like Jack). We were talking about where he was from (Canada) and who he was here with (alone) and how long (until Thursday) and how bad smoking is for you (very) and he told me that he had Stage 4 prostate cancer. He was diagnosed earlier last year and went through chemo and radiation. It didn't work and he said "fuck it - I'm just going to enjoy my life". I hadn't noticed the sparse eyebrows and thinned hair (from the chemo) until that point. It truly made me re-think the way I see people. It's SUCH a cliche, but never judge a book by it's cover. I thought Jack was a creeper and it ended up that he was just enjoying what he had left. His life. Regardless how short or long that may be. I personally am hoping for the latter.
He left before I got a chance to say goodbye. I did tell him that Kanoa and I are singing at Dog and Duck on Wednesday so maybe he'll show up. I'd love to sit and have a drink with him and enjoy life.
So, for my new friend, Jack (in French):

                                                               Appréciez votre vie.
                                                                  Enjoy your life.

Fun fun and......fun. : )

So....I had a wonderful weekend! The Elton John concert was OUT.OF.THIS.WORLD. I was so touched. Kanoa had a blast too. I laughed, danced, cried and got called out by a drag queen. I am making it a point to see more live shows. Nas and Damien Marley are playing tonight; not my cup of tea...so I'm at home.  : )
My dear friends, Mary Jane and Chris Sendrey (of The Mary Jane Experiment) celebrated Mary Jane's  birthday earlier this week and invited a group of friends up to Eco Adventures Zip Line tours on Saturday for some zip line excitement! The drive up, I was pretty anxious. I'd been zip lining up there before, but the elevation kinda freaks me out. Kanoa had never been zip lining and he said after the tour that he was pretty nervous too (he was really good at hiding it).   ; )
We had a great time! I met some really cool people and my little sister Tailyr came along as well! The tour guides were funny. So funny, in fact, that one "accidentally" didn't catch me at the end of a line and I ended up being temporarily stranded in the middle of the line. Just hanging there. All alone. In the middle. Stranded. Not. Fun. I pretended to be a good sport, but thought I was going to die.
The weather was beautiful. Think Gorillas in The Mist meets Jurassic Park. That was our backdrop. Wonderful. I wish I could live up there. I'd never leave.
After the zip-ing, we made it down to Three's to watch Moth perform their last South side show until.....? If you don't know who they are, you are missing out. Check out their link.  : )
Tomorrow is my Friday (again!) and I have three days off. I have been TOTALLY SLACKING on the gym, and I start again tomorrow. I am getting a special package with a special secret something in the mail tomorrow that will aid in the de-flabbing of my body and I am excited. I have to lose at least 2 inches in my waist by the end of March; there is a new Betsey dress that I am going to wear for our next show (March 25th, mark your calendars) and it's a TAD snug. lol.
I'm having fun getting acquainted with the piano(s) and am excited to see what comes of our relationship.  : )
Welp, I'm gonna finish watching The Golden Girls, write a few verses and kill a few gnats (anyone else notice how crazy that gnats have been lately?!?).  Here's a few pics from the concert and zip lines and Moth!

 Ciao!

Lightning.

Crazy electrical storm on Maui tonight.  : )  PLEASE check out the pictures from Sean Michael Hower's amazing collection of electrically charged photos. Amazing .
Good gig @ Dog and Duck tonight. In a wine-induced performance, I played some (off-tuned) piano for Miss Lynsey and a couple stragglers after hours.
Tomorrow is Elton John and I am frickin' EXCITED! Hoping for some amazing seats. : ) I will be sure to take LOTS of pics (hopefully WITH Sir Elton himself).
Kanoa is squinting over my shoulder as I type....I guess I should head to bed now.  ; )
 Nighty - nite.

Changed.

I wonder sometimes if I am allowed to be super personal. I mean, this blog started so that I could keep you all posted on the happenings of Rabbitt and The Propers, but - what if something super crazy happened in my personal life and I felt like I should vent via type? Regardless of whatever backlash may come? Oh well, here it goes....
I lay here in bed. The gnats from the recent rains are invading the laptop screen light - thirsting...for what, I'm not sure. Whale Day was great. Brought the smallest sister, Tailyr (17- not so small) with us. Broke a dress with a sneeze (not even joking), bought a new one. All at Kalama Park.
Things have been a bit rough for me and my other sibling recently. Without getting into too many details (to prevent the "guilty/innocent/whatever"), shit hit the fan tonight. Maui's "Finest" were involved and I'll probably have a bruise/knot/cut or two tomorrow. Thankfully, no concussion.
Either way, anyway....after tonight, things have changed. Personally, for me. It'll be a rough road. It makes me sad. But, such is life, I guess. I'm not sure what else to say.
I went and had dinner with Kanoa and my amazing friends at Mala in Wailea. Food was good, convo was juicy, but I was still sad. I probably will be for a while.
Work and music. That's all I'm directing my energy towards from now on. It's all I can afford to do.
Sorry if this is too personal. I may even take this post down tomorrow. But, I had to tell someone, anyone, what's on my mind. Thanks for listening.

SHOWTIME!

Just got done getting all dolled up for our show tonight @ Diamonds (10-1am. No Cover.). My personal color theme for the night is blue. Rockin' my Betsey dress and necklace. Shoes are still undecided. Listening to Hall and Oates Pandora station (which is the BEST EVER) and on a second glass of wine (nerves!).
The Rhodes will not be making an appearance tonight, but we just booked Three's for Friday, March 25th. The Rhodes will most definitely be there, as well as a (hopeful) handful of orginals.  : ) Tonight, we rock the covers.
Thanks again to Scott Johnson for the amazing flyers and to Sean Michael Hower for the awesome photos! I appreciate you guys more than words on my blog can express.  ; )
Let's go! Hope to see you there!

Don't panic...

...I'm back.
So, I could make this a ridiculously long post by trying to catch you up with everything that has transpired over the past week, but that would just be cruel. So here's my nutshell:
 - Laptop got infected with worms. Boo.
 - Seven day work week. Not complaining at all. I LOVE my job, but I am on empty after today.
 - Totally slacking on the gym. Kanoa continues to drop weight like dead flies. Booger.
 - Awesome meeting with Scott Johnson from Dogtowne Design resulted in AMAZING flyers for the Rabbitt and The Propers show tomorrow night! Big thanks to Sean Michael Hower again for the groovy pics! Scott was nominated for the cover art he did for The Throwdowns. They are a whole 'nother blog post. I LOVE them.   ; )
 - Miraculously squeezed my butt into a size 8 dress (Betsey, of course) that I will be rocking at our show (still working on that sponsorship).
 - Due to rehearsal and time contraints, I may or may not be playing the Rhodes Keyboard tomorrow. We'll see......
 - VOG. VOG. VOG.
 - Started bleaching my teeth and I'm very excited about the results. I'm an instant gratification type of person and my $50 Crest Whitestrips are just what I need. Three day results. Bingo.
 - I actually missed blogging every day. Surprising, since I thought I wouldn't get past one post.
 - I have TWO followers now (yay and thank you!). I was kinda down in the dumps about not having many followers, but then I watched Julie and Julia and it gave me a little more hope.  : )
 - Got my last W-2 and can't wait to file taxed and get my return back so I can be irresponsible and spend it all on finishing my sleeve (tattoo).

That's it for now. I am BEYOND pooped.
Rehearsal tomorrow with the boys, some relaxation and then some rock.
Let's do it.

OH YEAH - Here's the flyer for our show tomorrow! Tell your friends! Hope to see you there!

It's a long one. : )

So, I missed a day. But I'll totally make up for it in this blog.  : )
Sunday night was our Betsey Christmas party at my boss' house. I had such a great time! I made a strawberry shortcake from scratch for the party that was yummy. We started off the night watching Evil Dead - a cult horror movie from the 70s. It was intended to just be background noise for our festivities, but we ended up being pretty intrigued by the story line. I mean - one of the characters gets raped by a evil tree. Crazy stuff. After Evil Dead was over, we got our goodies bags. I am now the proud owner of four new Betsey dresses, three new Betsey purses, two new Betsey cardigans and a smorgasbord of jewelry. Did I mention I LOVE my job? You're the best, Kristyn!!! : )
After the goodie exchange, my co-worker Kelly suggested we watch a movie called "Teeth". It just so happened to be available on Netflix, so we watched. I'm not going to give it away, but you should definitely watch it. lol.
It was a great time with great co-workers who I am lucky to have. I hope we can have Christmas parties more often.  : )
Yesterday was my Friday. I worked during the day and then got the bad news from Kanoa that Goldie Hawn (our gold Ford Focus) had no breaks. His parents were kind enough to pick me up from work and drop me off at South Shore Tiki Lounge where he was playing for happy hour. I stopped in at Mahina to see one of my best friends, Stacy. I love her. She always makes me smile. We shot the shit for a little and then I headed back to Tiki to be serenaded by my man. We had a surprise visit by Sean Michael Hower and had some colorful conversation.
After Kanoa was done, our friend Daniel met up with us to drop of his car we were borrowing. It was Daniel's birthday, so we were headed to 808 Bistro for dinner. It was DELICIOUS. I've never been there before, although I am a huge fan of 808 Deli . I'm particularly fond of the BYOB rule at 808 Bistro. I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu and sampled Daniel's Gorgonzola Alfredo. Yummmmm.
The party headed to Diamonds Ice Bar and Grill  after to watch Gomega play. Always a good show! I got up and sang a couple songs and Miss Anuhea made an appearance as well!
All in all, the last couple days were stellar. I have the next three days off before I work seven days in a row, and I am looking forward to getting Goldie Hawn back on the road and going to the beach. I will also be writing lots of music. I promised myself I will finish at least one song over the course of my extended weekend. Wish me luck!

Superbowl Sunday....

Sooo...it's Superbowl Sunday, and I'm more excited about the rainy/gloomy weather we're having today than the football game. I've never really been a football girl. While I was growing up, my grandpa would watch every game, hooting and hollering like no one's business. I think I enjoyed watching just because of his company. And the snacks.  : )
Kanoa and I went and had some late night sushi at Sansei last night. I love sushi. I could eat it every day if my income allowed it. Chad and his girlfriend Emery joined us and we had a jolly old time. Yay for raw fish.
Steven Tyler was at the Shops again last night. Weird. He must really like that place. I still haven't figured out what song I would sing, should I be cornered by a celebrity asking me to show 'em what I got.
I had a good day at work yesterday and I work again at 4. We're having our Betsey Christmas party tonight too, so I'm excited about that. Goodies for us!!!!  : ) Tomorrow is my Friday and I have a three day weekend. Sweet.
I bought Elton John tickets for Kanoa and me last month and his concert is on the 23rd....I'm getting EXCITED! I'm planning on getting in line first thing in the morning ('cause we got general admission) so we can get as close as possible!
On a serious note, our friends Brandy and Matt were in a bad car accident night before last and are in the hospital, along with one of Brandy's friends. It's pretty serious, from what I've heard, so I send good thoughts their way. I only hope that no drinking was involved and that everyone is ok.  : (
Well, I haven't eaten breakfast yet (even though it's 12:15pm) and the bbq smell from our next door neighbors is wafting in through the living room windows and it's making me hungry...so I'm off to make some food.
Whether you're watching football or, like me, avoiding it like the plague, have a great day and enjoy this video of one of my favorite Elton songs (my Dad actually surprised my Mom and sang this to her in high school during chorus class):

Two in One?!?!?!

That's right - two posts in one day. I'm off to a raging start.  ;) I'm sitting here on my microfiber couch with my takeout sushi and America's Funniest Videos on the boob tube.
Worked the greater part of the day today (I work at Betsey Johnson, in case you didn't know). We got LOTS of awesome jewelry in that I am already obsessed with. Apparently Steven Tyler was hanging around in the shops today too. My mom and I met him about a year ago at Safeway. Pre-rehab. Pretty cool guy. So I started daydreaming and I was thinking how cool it would be if he came in and saw my music note tattoo and asked what instrument I played. I would say that I sang and he would ask me to sing a song (he is, after all, the newest judge on American Idol)... And then I realized, that if something that far-fetched was to ever happen, I don't know what song I would pick to sing! Maybe something from Miss Alicia Keys?! Natalie Williams?! Bill Withers?! Hmmm....I'm gonna have to really think about that one...
Nine hour work day tomorrow. Hopefully I can make it to the gym before I work. I know I can, it's really just a matter of whether I want to or not.
Welp, Kanoa just walked in from his wedding gig tonight. Congrats to the manager of the Kihei Outback restaurant and his beautiful wife and little family!   : ) Time to play catch up with Kanoa on the days activites. He says he has a surprise for me....wonder what it is.
Oh- and here's a picture of my mom and Mr. Aerosmith himself at Safeway.

More pictures!!!

Woohoo! I actually am posting my SECOND blog! It's more like an update, really, but I'm here and that's all that matters. lol.
I am soooper stoked on the new link that Sean Michael Hower shared with me today - you should check it out too! It's another (bigger) sneak peek of the photo shoot we did yesterday. You can find the pics here:
 http://howerphoto.com/ .
Follow me on my blog and keep up to date on what's going on in Rabbittland!

xox.

Is this thing on?!

Sooo....I've attempted the whole blog thing before and made it to one blog post. Here's hoping that I can call that one post and raise it, 'cause I have lots of exciting and fun things that I can't keep to myself and I want to share them with as many people as possible. : )
I am lead singer of a band here on Maui called Rabbitt and The Propers. We're a new band, but established musicians independently. David "Wolf" Wolfberg on bass, Kanoa Kukaua on guitar, Aaron Fulton on drums and me on the vocals/ possibly the Rhodes. Our sound is definitely soul-dominant, but I love rock and jazz too, so we'll make sure those genres are incorporated into our sound too.
I've gotta tell ya- I'm pretty switched on about this whole thing. We had out first photo shoot today with Sean Michael Hower and it was the bees knees. Sean was rad enough to send me a teaser pic tonight and it's AH-MAZING. Check out his website and see all the great work he does (including the teaser pic): www.howerphoto.com . Can't wait to see the rest tomorrow!
We've got our third show coming up this month - February 18th - and I've got my work cut out for me; learn how to play the vintage Fender Rhodes keyboard that Kanoa bought. So far so good.  : )
Well, my bed is calling. Nite!

Keepin' Track of You Keepin' Track
